HERE'S HOW TO CAFETIÈRE

Cafètiere you say? Oui mon ami. Call it what you want – it’s easy, no faff and reliable. A beginner staple and one of our favourites for good reason. But don’t let its simplicity fool you; following these simple steps, you can still guarantee yourself a top-notch cup of joe. Great for groups or if you're in a rush for your 9am meeting.

1.

First things first, stick the kettle on. We recommend roughly 200ml for every cup you plan to make.

2.

Whilst the kettle is doing its thing, grab the cafetière and pull the plunger all the way out.

3.

In goes the coffee. We find a ratio of 2 heaped tablespoons (12-14 grams) for every 200ml of water works a treat. You can adjust this to your preference.

4.

Once the kettle has gone tick, let the water rest for a minute as you want the temperature to be just below boiling. Pour it into the beaker and give it a gentle stir to make sure all of the coffee gets wet.

5.

Re-insert the plunger, but don't push it all the way down yet. Let it stand for 5 minutes. Head over to Chatting Beans for something to read whilst you wait!

6.

Take the plunge! Slowly push the plunger down as far it will go. A smooth steady pace for best result.

7.

Pour into a Proper Mug and let it cool for a moment. Then, it's ready to enjoy!

Top tip: Try it without milk or sugar first. What flavours can you taste?
